Seaweed festivals brings in the crowds for Clovelly
TO most people seaweed is the stuff which brushes your feet while swimming in the sea but there's more to it as the organisers of this year's Clovelly Seaweed Festival have shown.
This year's festival held on Sunday, June 12, brought in visitors from all over North Devon and there was even a couple from Holland curious about Clovelly's least conventional festival.
The event is held every year to promote seaweed's health and nutritional benefits.
Quay Kitchens were at the festival serving a variety of dishes incorporating seaweed as an ingredient.
There were plenty of activities for both adults and children to enjoy such as seaweed foot spas, seaweed workshops with Sarah Hotchkiss from CyberColloids, The National Trust put on seaweed craft activities, face painting and Henna tattoo's were on offer plus you could "have a go on a gig" with the Clovelly Gig team.
There were street entertainers and live music throughout the day and the founder of the Seaweed Health Foundation, Simon Ranger, provided visitors with information on the benefits of a diet which includes seaweed.
From 3pm the New Inn hosted an afternoon street party in celebration of the Queen's 90th birthday, including cream teas, live music, crafts and a workshop on how to make your own bunting.
