Seaweed Health Foundation / Partners Partners
Partners are individuals, organisations and companies whose aims and activities are compatible with those of the Foundation and with which the Foundation special links in pursuit of its core purposes:

Biodynamic Association
The ‘BDA’ is the Seaweed Health Foundation’s principal partner to implement the Nutritious Food Seaweed standard.
Biodynamic describes a particular holistic, ecological, ethical approach to farming, horticulture, food and nutrition. Biodynamic farmers strive to create a diversified, balanced ecosystem and enhance the nutritional quality and flavour of the food produced.
Founded in Britain in 1929, the BDA is the UK affiliate of Demeter International, the certification body for Biodynamic agriculture - and the only ecological association with a worldwide network of individual certification organisations, based on democratic principles.
Although the Nutritious Food Seaweed standard does not fall within the purview of Biodynamic agriculture, BDA is also an organic certification body. The Nutritious Food Seaweed standard aims to reflect the best practices of both these traditions and more, and is fully compliant with international Organic standards.
Biodynamic agricultural practices began in Germany in 1927, based on a series of lectures delivered in 1924 by Rudolf Steiner entitled "Spiritual Foundations for the Renewal of Agriculture". Within 7 years some 1000 ‘biodynamic’ farms were functioning and the Demeter certification was being used to distinguish biodynamic from conventional methods of farming.
The BDA’s Patron is Patrick Holden CBE, founder of The Sustainable Food Trust, and formerly Director of the Soil Association:
“If we are to transform our food systems so that the maximum number of people can eat nutritious food produced in the right ways, we need to work together, share ideas, pool resources and connect as part of a global food movement.”
